Year in Photos – Week 7

The forecast this week is starting out pretty normal with temperatures between -5 and -10C for the high. By the weekend, it’s forecasted to be -20C. I’m hoping to get out to the ski trails at least once, but this week may be a good time to try some indoor photography!

I’ve always enjoyed music; whether I was playing an instrument in school, listening to CDs and digital, or slipping a vinyl out of the case, I’ve always enjoyed the rhythms of music.

When my grandfather moved out of his house, there were several pieces of equipment that he couldn’t take to his new place. In addition to his record player, I also have his beehive radio. Sure, the selection of digital isn’t there, but the sound sounds a bit fuller, or at least I imagine it does.

As predicted, I was able to get out to the ski trails and enjoy some perfect conditions. The tracks were set, temperature was -7C and the sun was shining.

The 5-km figure eight route took me about 45 minutes to complete, which is a good workout and a great excuse to spend time on the trails.

I almost forgot to get my picture today, and it shows. I had emptied my photography cabinet looking for a single cord, leaving all the gear on the office floor. In my rush to get a shot, I forgot to check my aperture setting and ended up using a much slower shutter speed than I normally would for this lens.

The result is a blurry photo, but this is a lesson learned. Take the time to get the shot right.

With a rather busy week almost over, we ventured out to the local forest to enjoy a short walk. The sun was low in the sky, providing some nice lighting and shadows on the snow.

Pictures like these remind me of the setting sun at the cottage, as the shadows of the trees stretch long over the ground. I’m ready for cottage season to begin again.

TGIF! We took the dog to the conservation area and walked the roads. The clouds provided a good photo opportunity.

Despite the forecast of lots of snow this long weekend, the blue skies and sun shine have me thinking of warmer temperatures and spring.

Speaking of the dog, Lilo might be ready for the pandemic to be over so we can go back to work. She’s getting more attention than ever and it seems to be tiring her out.

She likes to snuggle with her toys in her bed and the turtle is one of her favourites.

I’m trying to make better use of my extension tubes for macro photography. I love the detail of macro, and the challenge it brings.

This spool of thread in the sunlight made for a great subject. I like how I can see the loose fibres on individual strands of thread.
